Half of pest control is knowing the pest: each lives in a different place and is treated differently. This guide helps you work out what you have.
Identify the pest
| What you see | Likely pest | Treatment |
|---|---|---|
| Bites in a line on waking | Bed bugs | Steam, insecticide and follow-up |
| Small cockroaches in the kitchen | German cockroach | Gel and bait |
| Large cockroaches in the bathroom | American cockroach | Spraying inspection chambers |
| Mud tubes on the wall | Termites | Injection |
| Small dark droppings and gnawing | Mice | Bait, traps and sealing |
| A small lizard on walls at night | Gecko | Insect control and sealing cracks |
Prevention
- Seal cracks around pipes and windows.
- Tight covers on drains.
- No uncovered food and no standing water.
- Preventive spraying twice a year.
When to call a technician
When you see the pest by day, when it returns after home treatment, or when it is bed bugs or termites: these two are not dealt with by household sprays.
