Why are pests so common in Kuwaiti homes?

Pests in Kuwait are not only a cleanliness issue. The long summer drives cockroaches and ants into air-conditioned homes in search of cool air and water, and dripping AC units and kitchen and bathroom leaks give them the moisture they need. In older buildings the drainage network is an open corridor for the American cockroach to climb from floor to floor, and second-hand furniture and suitcases back from travel are the most common way bed bugs get in.

In areas near the desert and farms, such as the edges of Jahra, Wafra, Abdali and Mutlaa, scorpions, geckos and rodents come closer to homes, especially where digging and construction are under way in new districts. Families who close their homes for months during summer travel often return to find pests have settled in. That is why our work always starts with two questions: which pest, and how did it get in?

This table shows when each pest is most active in Kuwait and what attracts it:

SeasonMost active pestWhat attracts itWhat to do
Summer (May – September)Cockroaches, ants, mosquitoesHeat pushes them indoors; AC condensatePreventive treatment before summer and fixing leaks

The most common pests in Kuwait and how each is treated

Each pest has its own behaviour, hiding place and treatment; no single product works for all of them. The table below covers what we treat most often in Kuwaiti homes and the signs that give each one away:

Cockroach control in Kuwait

Cockroach control in Kuwait starts from KWD 7.5 for an apartment, and the method depends on the species. The small German cockroach lives and breeds inside the kitchen itself, in cabinet joints and behind warm appliances; each female carries an egg case holding dozens of eggs, so numbers multiply within weeks unless the nests are treated. The large American cockroach lives in the sewer network and enters through floor drains and outlets.

German vs American cockroaches: why the treatment differs

Spraying liquid across the whole kitchen scatters German cockroaches into other rooms rather than killing them, so with this species we rely on gel and baits placed in their narrow hiding spots: they feed on it and carry it back to the nest. With the American cockroach the work focuses on floor drains, sewer access points and their covers, plus a residual spray around the entry points, because the source is outside the apartment.

Cockroach gel treatment

Gel treatment is small dots of attractant bait placed in cabinet joints, behind hinges and under sinks. It has no smell and you do not need to leave the home, which suits kitchens with children and restaurants that cannot close. It starts from KWD 9 and works gradually over one to two weeks.

Treating kitchens, bathrooms and drains

In the kitchen the technician empties the lower cabinets, treats behind the fridge, cooker and washing machine, and closes the gaps around the sink pipes. In bathrooms the drains and the area around the toilet are treated, and a tight drain cover is recommended. These details are what make a treatment last, not the amount of pesticide.

Inspecting a mattress for bed bug treatment in a bedroom in Kuwait

Bed bug control in Kuwait

Bed bug control in Kuwait starts from KWD 14 and is done over two visits 10 to 14 days apart. Bed bugs are small flat insects that hide in mattress seams and the crevices of beds and sofas, coming out at night to feed on blood. Their presence has nothing to do with how clean a home is: they travel in luggage, second-hand furniture and guests’ clothing. Because the eggs are not affected by the first treatment the way adults are, the second visit is what deals with anything that hatched afterwards.

Small blood spotsOn sheets and mattress edges.
Black dotsBed bug droppings along mattress seams.
Bites in a rowIn lines or clusters on arms and back.
Empty shellsShed skins in bed frame cracks.
A faint smellIn heavily infested rooms.

How bed bug treatment works

  1. Inspection: mattresses, bed frame, sofas, picture frames and sockets near the bed.
  2. Preparation: wash sheets and curtains in hot water and dry them on high heat; empty nearby drawers.
  3. Treatment: specialist spray for furniture crevices, carpet edges and mattress seams, with hot steam where suitable.
  4. Instructions: do not move furniture from the infested room to other rooms until treatment is complete.
  5. Second visit: after 10 to 14 days to treat anything that hatched from eggs.
Do not move an infested mattress to another roomMoving infested furniture, or sleeping in another room, spreads bed bugs through the whole home. Leave the room as it is until treatment ends, and if you decide to throw out a mattress, agree with the technician to wrap it before taking it out.

Termite and woodworm control

Termite control in Kuwait (locally called rimma) starts from KWD 18.5. Termites eat wood from the inside and leave its surface intact, so homeowners only notice when a door threshold breaks or a cabinet panel sinks. The clearest signs are thin mud tubes on walls or around door frames, and wood that sounds hollow when tapped.

Treatment involves injecting the product into infested wood through small holes, treating the cracks and joints termites climb through, and creating a chemical barrier in the soil around the building when they come from the ground. For homes under construction the barrier is applied before the tiles are laid, which is the cheapest moment for prevention. Woodworm attacks the furniture itself and is treated by injection, or by removing the piece if the damage is deep.

Black ant and small ant control

Spraying the visible line of black ants heading for sugar and food does not solve the problem, because what you see are only the workers; the queen stays in the nest. We use gel baits that workers carry back to the nest so they reach the queen, plus a residual spray on the cracks they enter through. It starts from KWD 7.5.

Installing rodent bait stations in a villa storeroom in Kuwait

Mouse and rodent control in Kuwait

Mouse control in Kuwait starts from KWD 11, and rodent control for large homes and farms from KWD 14. A mouse can get through a gap the width of a pen, gnaws cables, pipes and food, and spreads disease through its droppings. Baits alone are not enough: unless the gaps it came through are sealed, others will follow within weeks.

This table explains the rodent control methods and when each is used:

MethodWhen it is usedSafety note
Locked bait stationsWidespread activity in stores, gardens and basementsLocked box that children and cats cannot reach
Glue boardsKitchens, sensitive areas and limited activityChecked daily
Snap trapsFalse ceilings and narrow passagesPlaced out of children’s reach
Sealing entry pointsIn every caseMetal mesh and fillers around pipes and doors
Removing dead rodentsAfter treatmentCollected with gloves and the area disinfected

Mice in basements, stores and false ceilings

Basements, storerooms and false ceilings are quiet and dark, which is where mice settle and nest. The technician checks central AC openings, pump rooms, drain pipes and the bottom of garage doors, traces the rodent’s route from rub marks and droppings, and places the stations along that route rather than at random.

Gecko, scorpion and reptile control

Gecko control in Kuwait starts from KWD 18.5, together with scorpions and small reptiles. Geckos do not bite, but they leave droppings on walls and furniture, and gather around outdoor lights because they feed on the insects drawn there. The real fix is reducing their food and sealing the gaps around AC units, windows and courtyard doors.

Scorpions appear more in homes next to the desert, farms and construction sites in Jahra and Ahmadi, hiding under stones, piles of bricks and garden waste. The technician treats the perimeter and boundary walls and advises clearing nearby piles. If someone is stung by a scorpion or you see a snake, do not try to handle it yourself: call emergency services on 112 for stings, keep away from the snake and keep children away.

Mosquito, fly and flying insect treatment

Mosquito and fly treatment in Kuwait starts from KWD 9 for a house and its garden. Mosquitoes breed in any standing water: plant saucers, AC drain outlets, neglected fountains and garden ponds. We treat the breeding sites first, then fog the garden, outdoor seating and diwaniya with a very fine droplet spray; treatment at sunset works best, when mosquitoes become active.

Flies follow the smell of rubbish and food waste, so control fails if bins are left open. In restaurants and large kitchens, electric fly killers are added away from food preparation areas.

Pigeon control and deterrent installation

Pigeon deterrent installation in Kuwait starts from KWD 23 depending on the area and the number of windows. Pigeons on AC units, windows and roofs leave droppings that ruin paintwork and block gutters, and can carry diseases and parasites. The lasting solution is not killing them but stopping them from landing, using one of the following:

  • Pigeon netting: closes the space behind AC units, balconies and light wells.
  • Anti-bird spikes: on window ledges, walls and signs.
  • Tensioned wires: along long ledges and open roofs.
  • Cleaning before installation: removing droppings and nests and disinfecting the area.

Moths, silverfish, fleas and bees

Clothes and carpet moths

Moth treatment in Kuwait starts from KWD 11. Moths eat wool, silk and handmade carpets in closed wardrobes and rarely used rooms. The technician treats wardrobes and carpet edges, and we recommend airing winter clothes and storing them clean in sealed bags.

Silverfish and pantry beetles

Silverfish like moisture, paper and starch, and appear in bathrooms, bookshelves and stores. They are treated with a targeted spray while reducing humidity and fixing leaks. Pantry beetles are dealt with by sorting and discarding infested food and cleaning the shelves.

Fleas

Fleas usually come with stray cats or pets and live in carpets and where the animal sleeps. Floors and carpets are treated while the animal itself is treated by a vet; otherwise they come back.

Bees and wasps

Bee and wasp nests in trees, AC openings and ceilings are removed in protective gear at a calm time of day, and the spot is then treated so they do not return. The price is set after inspection, as it depends on the size and height of the nest.

Types of pesticide and treatment methods

The form of a treatment matters as much as the product. A residual liquid spray leaves a film that kills insects as they cross it, gels and baits are eaten and carried back to the nest, and fogging reaches flying insects in the air. This table shows when each form is used:

Are pest control products safe for children, pregnant women and pets?

Yes. Pesticides registered with the Kuwait Ministry of Health are safe when used at the correct dose and when the instructions on leaving and ventilating are followed. The real risk comes from agricultural pesticides used indoors, from unlabelled mixtures, or from returning home before the spray has dried. That is why we tell you the product name before treating and tell you when to come back.

  • Children and pregnant women: leave before a liquid spray and return only after the set time and airing the rooms.
  • Infants and people with asthma: we prefer gel, baits and targeted treatment.
  • Cats and birds: taken out; fish tanks covered and their pumps switched off.
  • Food and dishes: kept in the fridge or sealed bags before treatment.
  • Children’s toys: collected in a closed box until treatment ends.
A warning sign you should not ignoreIf anyone feels dizzy, has difficulty breathing or eye irritation after treatment, take them into fresh air, call emergency services on 112, and keep the product name to give to the doctor.

Pest control licensing in Kuwait

The Kuwait Ministry of Health licenses pest control companies and their technicians, through the Medical Insect and Rodent Control Section of the Public Health Department, and it registers the pesticides used for public health. To be licensed, a company must employ at least one pest control technician licensed by the ministry and have a pesticide store that meets storage and safety requirements.

In practice, before any treatment ask the company for the name of the product and its active ingredient, whether it is registered for household use, and who the technician will be. A serious company answers without hesitation; be wary of one that only says it uses a “special product” without naming it.

Pest control steps from inspection to sealing entry points in a Kuwait home

Our pest control process

  1. Listening and identifying: which pest, when it appears, in which room and for how long.
  2. Inspection: kitchen, bathrooms, drains, behind appliances, basements and the perimeter.
  3. Treatment plan: choosing the product form that suits the pest, the place and the people living there.
  4. Preparation: covering food, asking those who need to leave to do so, and moving pets.
  5. Treatment: spray, gel, baits, injection or fogging, applied in hiding places rather than into the air.
  6. Sealing entry points: gaps around pipes and AC units, drain covers and under doors.
  7. Instructions: when to return, when to mop floors and what not to do.
  8. Follow-up: a second visit where needed, and a free visit if the pest returns within the guarantee.

What to do before and after treatment

Before the technician arrives

  • Empty the lower kitchen cabinets and put the contents in closed bags.
  • Store food in the fridge or airtight containers.
  • Cover fish tanks and switch off their pumps.
  • Move children and pets to a nearby home or outside.
  • Do not mop with bleach on the same day before treatment.

After treatment

  • Open the windows when you return and run ventilation for at least 15 minutes.
  • Wipe only food preparation surfaces and leave corners and joints unwiped.
  • Do not mop floors with water for two to three days after a residual spray.
  • Do not spray household insecticide over gel as it spoils the bait and repels the insects.
  • Seeing dead insects is normal in the first days, as they leave their hiding places.

When will I see results, and how long does a visit take?

Results do not appear in the same hour for every pest; some treatments are deliberately slow so they reach the nest. The table shows what to expect:

PestVisit lengthWhen results showNumber of visits
Cockroaches45 – 90 minutes1 – 3 days, gone within two weeksOne, with follow-up if needed
Bed bugs1 – 3 hoursWithin days, complete after the second visitTwo
Ants45 minutes3 – 7 daysOne
Mice1 – 2 hours4 – 10 daysOne, plus bait check
Termites2 – 5 hoursWeeks until activity stopsOne, plus follow-up
Mosquitoes and flies30 – 60 minutesSame dayRegular in summer

Spraying vs pest control: what is the difference?

Spraying is a single step: a product applied to a space. Pest control is a complete process that starts with knowing the pest and its source, then choosing the right treatment, sealing entry points and changing what attracts it, then following up. That is why one home sprayed twice a year sees the insects back within a week, while another treated once the right way stays clear for months.

Can I do pest control myself?

For a very small problem, such as a single American cockroach that came up a drain or ants in one corner, cleaning, closing the gap and a household bait are enough. But if you see small cockroaches in daytime, notice bed bug bites, or hear movement in the ceiling, the problem is bigger than a spray can. These are common mistakes we find in homes before we arrive:

MistakeWhat it causes
Spraying small cockroaches with aerosolThey scatter to new rooms and get used to the product
Using agricultural pesticide indoorsHealth risk and a smell that lingers for days
Spraying the visible ant trailWorkers die, the queen survives and ants return
Throwing out a bed bug mattress unwrappedBugs spread to corridors and neighbouring flats
Leaving rat poison exposedChildren and cats can reach it
Mopping floors straight after treatmentRemoves the residual film and shortens protection

Pest control for restaurants, offices and warehouses

Pest control for restaurants in Kuwait starts from KWD 18.5 per visit, under a monthly or bimonthly contract. A restaurant cannot afford a single cockroach in front of a customer, nor can it close for a whole day, so we work after closing or in quiet hours, rely on gel, bait stations and targeted treatment, and leave a log of every visit to show during inspections.

Restaurants and cafésGel and baits, electric fly killers and a visit log.
Stores and warehousesNumbered rodent stations around the perimeter, checked regularly.
Offices and companiesAfter-hours treatment with no smell in the offices.
Residential buildingsTreating drains, basements and bin rooms for the whole building.

Cheapest pest control company in Kuwait

The cheapest pest control in Kuwait is the one you do not have to repeat. A KWD 5 cockroach spray repeated after two weeks costs more than a proper KWD 7.5 treatment that lasts three months. Our prices start from KWD 7.5 for cockroaches and ants, with a written guarantee period and a price stated before work starts, with no items added afterwards.

Best pest control company in Kuwait: how to choose

The best pest control company in Kuwait is the one that asks before it sprays and tells you what it will use. Put these questions to any company before you open the door:

  • Do you ask about the pest before quoting? A flat price for every pest is a sign of random spraying.
  • What is the product, and is it registered? You have the right to know what is sprayed in your home.
  • Is the technician licensed? The Ministry of Health licenses pest control technicians.
  • Do you seal entry points or only spray? Spraying without sealing is a temporary fix.
  • How long is the guarantee and what does it cover? The period should be specific and written.
  • What are the instructions for leaving and returning? A serious company gives you the time in hours.

Pest control in Hawalli and Salmiya

In Hawalli and Salmiya we often treat apartments and older buildings, where American cockroaches move between floors through drains and bin rooms, and bed bugs move between furnished flats. We treat the whole building when the landlord agrees, because treating one flat in an infested building does not last.

Pest control in Farwaniya, Khaitan and Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh

Farwaniya, Khaitan and Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh have many shared flats and small restaurants. There we rely on gel and baits with drain treatment, and offer building owners regular contracts covering the whole building.

Pest control in Ahmadi, Fahaheel and Mangaf

In Ahmadi, Fahaheel, Mangaf and Mahboula we serve flats, villas and the seaside chalets of Khiran, with frequent requests for mosquitoes around gardens and mice in stores. In Wafra the work is mostly scorpions and rodents on farms.

Pest control in Jahra and Saad Al-Abdullah

In Jahra, Saad Al-Abdullah, Qasr and Mutlaa geckos and scorpions are common because of the nearby desert and construction sites. We treat the home perimeter and boundary walls and seal the gaps around AC units.

Pest control in Mubarak Al-Kabeer and the Capital

In Sabah Al-Salem, Qurain, Adan and Qusour, and in Capital areas such as Shuwaikh, Rawda and Kaifan, most requests are for kitchen cockroaches, garden ants and mice in basements, with morning and evening visits available.

Service guarantee

We guarantee cockroach, ant, mouse and gecko treatment for 3 months, bed bug treatment for 3 months once both visits are complete, and termite treatment for 6 months. If the same pest returns within that period we come back for a free visit, provided the post-treatment instructions were followed. Details are on our service guarantee page.

If your home needs a deep clean after treatment, see our cleaning company in Kuwait. And if insects have appeared around or inside your water tank, the tank needs washing and disinfection before you drink from it; details are in water tank cleaning in Kuwait.

Frequently asked questions about pest control in Kuwait

How much does pest control cost in Kuwait?

Cockroach treatment starts from KWD 7.5, bed bugs from KWD 14, mice from KWD 11 and termites from KWD 18.5. The final price depends on the pest and the size of the property.

Are the pesticides safe for children and pregnant women?

Yes, when they are registered with the Kuwait Ministry of Health and the technician’s instructions are followed: stay out until the treatment dries, air the rooms, and keep children, pregnant women and pets away until you are told to return.

How soon will I see results after cockroach treatment?

Cockroaches start appearing dead or disoriented within 24 to 72 hours and usually disappear within one to two weeks with gel and baits.

How many treatments do bed bugs need?

Usually two visits 10 to 14 days apart, because the eggs are not affected by the first treatment the way adult bugs are.

How long does a home treatment take?

From 45 minutes to an hour and a half for an apartment, and two to four hours for a villa, depending on floors and pest.

How long should we stay out after spraying?

Two to four hours after a liquid spray. Gel and bait treatments alone do not require leaving; the technician sets the time for the product used.

Do you treat termites in Kuwait?

Yes, by injecting the wood and walls and creating a chemical barrier in the soil around the building. It starts from KWD 18.5 with a 6-month guarantee.

How do I get rid of geckos in the house?

Seal the gaps around AC units and doors, switch off the outdoor lights that attract the insects geckos feed on, and have the perimeter treated. The service starts from KWD 18.5.

Do you work in Jahra, Ahmadi and Mubarak Al-Kabeer?

Yes, we cover all six governorates: Capital, Hawalli, Farwaniya, Ahmadi, Jahra and Mubarak Al-Kabeer, daily from 7 am to 11 pm.

Is the work guaranteed?

Yes: 3 months for cockroaches, ants, mice, geckos, and bed bugs once both visits are done, and 6 months for termites, with a free return visit if the pest comes back within that period.

Do you treat restaurants and warehouses?

Yes, with monthly or bimonthly visits and a treatment log. A restaurant visit starts from KWD 18.5.

What is the difference between spraying and pest control?

Spraying is a single step. Pest control starts by identifying the pest and its source, then applies the right treatment, seals its entry points and follows up so it does not return.

Can I spray cockroaches myself?

For a very small problem, yes. But household sprays scatter German cockroaches without reaching their nests, so they come back within days.

How do I know a company is licensed?

Ask for its pest control licence from the Ministry of Health and the name of the product it will use. The ministry licenses companies and technicians and registers public-health pesticides.

Do you install pigeon deterrents?

Yes, nets, wires and spikes on windows, AC units and roofs, starting from KWD 23 depending on the area.
