Types of water tanks available in Kuwait
Water tanks in Kuwait differ first by material, and the material decides lifespan, weight, insulation and how the tank can be repaired later. Most rooftops today get multi-layer polyethylene tanks, because they are a single seamless piece, relatively light and insulated. Next come fiberglass (GRP) tanks, known for their rigidity and heat tolerance, then sectional tanks assembled from panels on site for buildings and projects, stainless steel for kitchens and facilities, and concrete for ground tanks.
The table compares the types of water tanks available in Kuwait:
| Type | Strength | Watch for | Suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Multi-layer polyethylene | Seamless, insulated, light | Quality of the sun-facing outer layer | Most homes and flats |
| One-piece fiberglass GRP | Rigid and heat tolerant | Heavier, needs a protective coat | Villas and exposed roofs |
| Sectional GRP panels | Large capacities built on site | Sealing between panels | Buildings and projects |
| Stainless steel | Rust-free and easy to clean | Price, and heat without insulation | Kitchens and facilities |
| Galvanised iron | Once the cheap option | Rusts inside over time | Not advised for drinking water |
| Concrete ground tank | Large underground storage | Needs an internal lining | Ground tanks |
Polyethylene water tanks
A polyethylene tank is made by rotational moulding, so it comes out as one piece with no joints to leak. Its quality lies in its layers: an outer layer with a UV stabiliser, one or more insulating foam layers, and a smooth white food-grade inner layer that resists sediment and shows how clean the water is. This is the tank most people mean when they search for a “water tanki”.
Fiberglass water tanks
A fiberglass tank is made of glass fibers soaked in resin, with a smooth gelcoat inside. It is rigid and copes with heat and pressure, is made in Kuwait by more than one fiberglass factory, and comes in sizes from 500 gallons up to large tanks to order. It needs an outer coat to shield it from the sun, and if it cracks with age it can be repaired with fiber layers. A 500 gallon fiberglass tank starts from KWD 78.
Stainless steel and galvanised tanks
Stainless steel does not rust or hold odours, and suits restaurants, central kitchens and medical facilities, from KWD 185. Old galvanised iron tanks rust from the inside and stain the water, and we do not advise buying them for drinking water even when they are cheaper.
Layered tanks: what 3, 4, 5 and 6 layers mean
The number of layers is the first thing buyers in Kuwait ask about, and the difference is insulation and light blocking. A single-layer tank lets light through, so algae grows and the water heats quickly. Three layers add an insulating foam layer between the outer and inner skins. Five or six layers add foam layers of different densities, so the water stays cooler and cleaner and the tank lasts longer. That is why 5- and 6-layer insulated tanks sit on most exposed roofs.
The table shows the difference between water tanks by number of layers:
| Layers | What is added | Suits |
|---|---|---|
| Single layer | Plastic body only | Temporary tanks or shaded spots |
| 3 layers | UV outer + insulating foam + white inner | A tank in a shaded place |
| 4 layers | An extra foam layer | Roofs with moderate sun |
| 5 layers | High-density and low-density foam | Exposed roofs |
| 6 layers, insulated | Highest insulation and light blocking | Roofs in full sun all day |

Tank shapes: vertical, horizontal, short and wall tanks
The shape is chosen for the space before the capacity. A vertical tank is the most common and saves roof space. A horizontal tank goes where height is limited, under canopies, and on roofs exposed to strong wind. A short, wide tank holds a lot at a low height. There is also a slim wall or “fence” tank, about 29 centimetres wide and nearly two metres tall holding 500 litres, that stands against a wall in passages and narrow roofs. A ground tank is buried or set in a tank room and needs a pump to lift the water.
Water tank brands in Kuwait
People in Kuwait search for tanks by maker more than by type: Wataniya, Neama, Al-Hajri, Al-Muttahida (United) and Zamil. These are the main names on the market and what their published sources say about them. We are not agents for any of them; we supply and install what you choose from what is available, and prices and warranties follow the brand and are confirmed when you order.
Wataniya tanks
“Wataniya” and “Watani” are the most searched tank names in Kuwait. Under this name are Kuwaiti factories producing polyethylene tanks in 3-layer, 3-layer insulated and 4-layer versions, in sizes from 250 gallons up to 2,250 gallons, in vertical, horizontal, short and wall models, as well as fiberglass and sectional panel tanks. Wataniya tanks are the ones listed in the subsidised co-op tank lists.
Neama tanks
Neama is a well-known name in the Kuwaiti tank market, available in 3, 4 and 5 layers, including a 1,000 gallon 6-layer insulated polyethylene tank, as well as fiberglass tanks. People also search for “Neama drums”, the smaller plastic storage barrels.
Al-Hajri tanks
Al-Hajri Fiberglass Factory is one of Kuwait’s fiberglass makers, and people search for “Al-Hajri tanks” when they want fiberglass. Available sizes are confirmed with the order.
Al-Muttahida (United) tanks
Al-Muttahida is a Kuwaiti tank maker offering 3- and 4-layer polyethylene tanks in various sizes plus fiberglass tanks, and its listings describe them as resistant to algae and UV.
Zamil tanks
Zamil is a well-known Saudi maker of vertical, horizontal and underground polyethylene tanks, and many people in Kuwait search for it. It reaches Kuwait through distributors, so check the sizes in stock and the distributor’s warranty before buying.
Other brands on the Kuwaiti market
Other names include Kuwait Global, with vertical and wall tanks whose warranty depends on the number of layers; Shiraa Al-Khaleej, with polyethylene tanks from West Shuaiba Industrial Area; Atyaf, with rotationally moulded tanks and a filtered vent; and imported GRP tanks such as DOORI in 1,000, 2,000 and 3,000 gallon sizes.
The table summarises the main water tank brands in Kuwait and their materials:
| Brand | Material | Layers / note |
|---|---|---|
| Wataniya / Watani | Polyethylene, fiberglass, sectional panels | 3, 3 insulated, 4 layers; 250 – 2,250 gallons |
| Neama | Polyethylene and fiberglass | 3, 4, 5 layers and 6 insulated |
| Al-Hajri | Fiberglass | Sizes to order |
| Al-Muttahida (United) | Polyethylene and fiberglass | 3 and 4 layers |
| Zamil | Polyethylene | Saudi, via distributors |
| Kuwait Global | Vertical and wall tanks | Warranty by layers |
| Shiraa Al-Khaleej | Polyethylene | Shuaiba Industrial Area |

Water tank capacities in gallons and litres
In Kuwait capacity is usually written in gallons, and that is where the confusion starts: in the Gulf tank market a gallon normally means the imperial gallon (about 4.55 litres), while some makers and websites use the US gallon (3.785 litres). The gap is large on big tanks: 1,000 imperial gallons is about 4,550 litres, while 1,000 US gallons is about 3,785 litres. Always ask for the capacity in litres before comparing prices.
The table converts common tank sizes from gallons to litres using both gallons:
| Capacity in gallons | Litres (imperial) | Litres (US) | Suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| 250 gallons | 1,137 litres | 946 litres | Small flat |
| 500 gallons | 2,273 litres | 1,893 litres | Flat or small house |
| 750 gallons | 3,410 litres | 2,839 litres | Small family home |
| 1,000 gallons | 4,546 litres | 3,785 litres | Mid-size family home |
| 1,200 gallons | 5,455 litres | 4,542 litres | Large home |
| 1,500 gallons | 6,819 litres | 5,678 litres | Villa |
| 2,000 gallons and up | 9,092 litres and up | 7,571 litres and up | Large villas and buildings |
The 1,000 litre water tank
The 1,000 litre tank is one of the most requested in Kuwait. It equals about 220 imperial gallons, so it sits close to the “250 gallon” tank in market naming. It suits small flats, annexes, diwaniyas, a backup tank beside the main one and small farms. Its approximate dimensions are 90 to 110 centimetres across and 120 to 140 centimetres tall, so it fits through most roof doors without a crane. A 1,000 litre water tank in Kuwait starts from KWD 23 and rises with layers and brand.
How to choose the right tank size
The right size keeps the house going for a day or two if the supply is cut or a refill is late, without water sitting stale in a tank bigger than needed. Start with the number of people and how the household uses water: Kuwaiti families use a lot in summer between showers, laundry, garden watering and car washing. Then look at the space available and what the roof can carry. The table is a guide and is adjusted to each home:
The table suggests a tank size by type of home:
| Home | Suggested size | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Flat, 1 – 3 people | 250 – 500 gallons | Vertical or wall tank |
| House, 4 – 6 people | 750 – 1,000 gallons | With a ground tank and pump |
| Large house, 7 or more | 1,200 – 1,500 gallons | Or two linked tanks |
| Villa with garden | 1,500 gallons and up | A separate irrigation tank if possible |
| Apartment building | A tank per group of flats | Or sectional tanks |

Water tank prices in Kuwait
Prices below are starting points in Kuwaiti dinars. They vary with brand, number of layers, capacity and material, are confirmed before delivery, and installation is added according to the location.
The table summarises water tank and installation prices in Kuwait:
| Tank | From |
|---|---|
| 1,000 litre plastic water tank | KWD 23 |
| 2,000 litre tank | KWD 92 |
| 3,000 litre tank | KWD 138 |
| 500 gallon fiberglass tank | KWD 78 |
| 1,000 gallon 6-layer insulated polyethylene tank | KWD 155 |
| Stainless steel tank | KWD 185 |
| Installation with pipes and float | KWD 18.5 |
| 1,200 and 1,500 gallons and larger | Priced by brand and layers on order |
| Old tank removal and delivery | Send a photo of the old tank and its location for a price |
Price of a 1,000 gallon water tank
The 1,000 gallon tank is the most common size for a family home. A 6-layer insulated model starts from KWD 155, and the price varies between brands and between tall and short versions of the same capacity.
Wataniya tank prices
Wataniya tank prices vary with capacity, number of layers and whether the tank is insulated, and are given on order. If you are eligible, the subsidised co-op prices are useful for comparison.
What sets the price of a tank?
- Material: polyethylene, fiberglass or stainless steel.
- Layers and wall thickness: insulation raises the price and lowers water temperature.
- Capacity and shape: short and wide differs from tall.
- Brand and warranty: some makers tie the warranty to the layers.
- Delivery and installation: a high roof or a crane adds cost.
Subsidised co-op tanks for citizens
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry added water tanks to the building materials sold at subsidised prices through cooperative societies to eligible citizens, with a subsidy of 20 to 25 percent. According to the list published in the Kuwaiti press when the decision was issued, Wataniya tank prices in it were as shown below. These are not our prices and are for eligible citizens only, so check current prices and conditions with your area co-op.
The table shows subsidised co-op tank prices as published when the decision was issued:
| Tank on the co-op list | Published subsidised price |
|---|---|
| 1,000 gallon short polyethylene, 5-layer insulated | KWD 165 |
| 1,000 gallon short polyethylene, 6-layer insulated | KWD 168 |
| 1,200 gallon polyethylene, 6-layer insulated | KWD 184 |
| 1,500 gallon polyethylene, 6-layer insulated | KWD 200 |
| 1,000 gallon 6-layer + 1,200 gallon temporary construction tank | KWD 200 |
| 1,500 gallon 6-layer + 1,200 gallon temporary construction tank | KWD 240 |
If you buy your tank through the co-op, we install it with its connections and float, since installation is a separate service from where you buy.

Used water tanks for sale in Kuwait
A used tank is tempting on price, and it can be a good deal if it comes from a demolished house or from construction tanks nobody drank from. But a polyethylene tank’s life shortens with every summer it has spent in the sun, and a hairline crack or an old weld only shows on inspection. We do not sell used tanks, but if you buy one we inspect it before installation, then wash, disinfect and install it.
- Check the body in good light: look for hairline cracks and chalky flaking outside.
- Check inside: the white layer should be smooth, with no algae or stains.
- Look for weld marks: they mean it has leaked before.
- Press on the wall: brittle plastic creaks or crumbles.
- Ask what it held: a fuel or chemical tank is never fit for drinking water.
- Fill and test it: before taking it up to the roof, if possible.

Tank delivery and installation
Installation decides a tank’s life more than its brand. A first-class tank on a sloping base cracks its floor, and pipes pulled tight on its openings crack them in the first summer. So our service starts with a site check: is the base level and does it carry the whole floor? Is the spot over a column or beam? Will the tank fit through the roof door, or does it need lifting from outside? Then the tank is set in place, the inlet, outlet and overflow are connected, the float, valve and meshed vent are fitted, and it is filled and tested. Installation with pipes and float starts from KWD 18.5.
- Survey: The spot, the base and the route up to the roof.
- Remove the old tank: Drain, disconnect and lower it, if there is one.
- Prepare the base: A full level surface over columns or beams.
- Lift and secure: By the stairs or a crane, depending on size.
- Connections: Inlet, outlet and overflow, threads wrapped in PTFE tape and a valve on each line.
- Float and vent: Float set below the overflow and a meshed vent.
- Rinse and fill: Rinse storage dust from the new tank, then fill.
- Test: Check fittings, level and float before handover.
If the old tank is still sound and leaks from one spot, repairing it may cost less than buying new; the comparison is in water tank repair in Kuwait.

The best water tanks in Kuwait: how to judge
There is no single “best” tank for every home, only the one that suits yours. A good tank for Kuwait is made of drinking-water-safe material, has a UV-resistant outer layer, enough insulation for an exposed roof, a smooth white interior and a capacity that lasts the house a day or two, from a brand with a clear warranty and parts available in Kuwait. If the roof is in sun all day, 5- or 6-layer insulation is worth the price difference.
- Drinking-water-safe material certified by the maker.
- UV-resistant outer layer or it flakes within a few years.
- Insulation to suit the roof 5 or 6 layers when exposed.
- Smooth white interior resists sediment and shows cleanliness.
- Tight lid and filtered vent to keep out dust and insects.
- A written warranty with a clear period and terms.
Common mistakes when buying a tank
The table lists common mistakes when buying a water tank and the result of each:
| Mistake | Result |
|---|---|
| Comparing prices by gallon without checking which gallon | A smaller tank than you think |
| Buying a translucent or single-layer tank for the roof | Algae and hot water |
| Setting the tank on the edges of blocks | A cracked floor |
| Pulling pipes tight on the tank openings | Cracks at the openings |
| A tank far bigger than needed | Stale water and extra roof load |
| Buying a used chemical tank | Water unfit to drink |
| Ignoring the warranty and invoice | Nothing to fall back on if it fails |
After installation: first wash, cooling and filtration
A new tank holds storage dust and manufacturing residue, so it is rinsed before the first fill, then washed regularly as in water tanki washing in Kuwait. If the water still heats up in summer despite insulation, cooling units are covered in water tank cooling in Kuwait. For cleaner water and stronger pressure in the house, central filters and pumps are in central water filters and pumps in Kuwait.

Frequently asked questions about water tanks for sale in Kuwait
How much is a 1,000 litre water tank in Kuwait?
A 1,000 litre plastic water tank starts from KWD 23 and rises with the number of layers and the brand. The price is confirmed when you order because it varies between brands.
What are water tank prices in Kuwait?
From KWD 23 for a 1,000 litre tank, KWD 92 for 2,000 litres, KWD 138 for 3,000 litres, KWD 78 for a 500 gallon fiberglass tank, KWD 155 for a 1,000 gallon 6-layer insulated tank and KWD 185 for stainless steel.
What are the best water tanks in Kuwait?
The best tank is made of drinking-water-safe material with a UV-resistant outer layer, an insulating layer and a smooth white inner layer, sized for the home, from a brand whose parts and warranty are available in Kuwait. Multi-layer polyethylene suits most homes.
What is the difference between a 3-layer and a 6-layer tank?
Extra layers add insulation and block light, so the water stays cooler and cleaner and the tank lasts longer. A 3-layer tank is fine in shade; 5 or 6 layers are better on an exposed roof.
How many litres are in a gallon in the tank market?
In the Gulf tank market a gallon usually means the imperial gallon, about 4.55 litres, so a 1,000 gallon tank holds about 4,550 litres. Some makers use the US gallon of 3.785 litres, so ask for the capacity in litres.
Are you an agent for Wataniya or Neama tanks?
No, we are not agents for any brand. We supply and install the tank of the brand you choose from what is available in Kuwait, and the maker’s warranty stays on the tank.
Do you sell used water tanks?
We do not sell used tanks, but if you buy one we inspect it before installation, then wash, disinfect and install it. Before buying, check for cracks, chalking, old welds or algae.
How much does tank installation cost in Kuwait?
Tank installation with pipe connections and the float starts from KWD 18.5, depending on size and location.
Can my roof carry a large water tank?
Every litre of water weighs a kilogram, so a full 1,000 imperial gallon tank weighs more than 4.5 tonnes. It goes over columns or beams on a full base, and on older roofs an engineer should be consulted before large tanks.
What tank size does my home need?
A small flat manages with 250 – 500 gallons, a mid-size family home with 1,000 gallons, and large villas with 1,200 – 1,500 gallons or two tanks. Also think about how many days the water should last during a cut.
Are subsidised co-op tanks open to everyone?
They are for eligible citizens through the cooperative societies under a Ministry of Commerce and Industry decision, and prices and conditions are checked with the co-op.
What tank colour is best in Kuwait?
What matters most is that it is opaque so no light gets in to grow algae, with a UV-resistant outer layer. Light colours reflect some of the sun’s heat.
How long do delivery and installation take?
Installation takes about two hours for a standard tank once it arrives, and delivery depends on stock of the brand and size you want, confirmed when you order.
Do you remove the old tank?
Yes. We drain, disconnect and lower the old tank and prepare the base for the new one. Send a photo of the old tank and where it sits to get the price.
What guarantee comes with the tank and installation?
The tank carries the maker’s warranty according to brand and number of layers, and installation carries our one-year guarantee.
